Willy settles in

willy being brushed 2006-06-04
Willy seems right at home now that he’s been here a month or so. He gets affectionate (as cats go) every once in a while and wanders over for some petting. He loves to be brushed with the rubber brush that we use on Kai. It’s part brushing and part massage, and it really helps keep the cat hair down.

kai and arlin, beach at point pinole 2006-05-28

This was the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. We’ve found several beaches for Kai to play at. This one is at Point Pinole, just three or four miles away. We were the only ones on the beach at the time.

Kai and groupies 2006-05-07

This is Kai taking a break from performing during the church talent show last month. He did his tricks of catching treats that were tossed to him, rolling over, and balancing a treat on his muzzle, then snapping it into his mouth. Of course, he didn’t really enjoy having all this attention lavished on him, but he took it graciously.

New chicks

Amid everything else, Sidney and Estefania decided to start another
family. There are now four almost-grown chicks. The oldest is Santos,
pictured here eating from my finger. He (or she) is gray and blue, the
spitting image of Ignacio. He was hatched on Good Friday.

Spring comes to Nevin Plaza

Over the past couple of months, workers have installed lights, benches,
and trash containers on the plaza. Now that the maple trees that were
planted last year have leafed out nicely, the plaza looks pretty good.
This photo was taken from the east end. Our house is at the far end of
the row. To the left of the camera but out of sight is the new BART
station (well under construction); the fence to the right is on an empty
lot now, but a commercial structure will be built there soon. (We’re
hoping for a coffee shop.)

Willi comes upstairs

Willi’s been with us for a week now, and until today (as far as we know)
he’d spent all his time on the ground floor, with the exception of one
exploration upstairs lasting a minute or so.
This evening, though, he apparently felt safe enough to come up to the
second floor and really look around. He even took up a position on the
sofa back and kept it when Kai decided to get into the act.
