Bob Erickson’s visit

bob_erickson_2007-06-12, originally uploaded by Phil Youngholm.

Bob Erickson stopped over on Monday night on his way back from Hawaii. We took a brief tour of San Francisco with Kai on the way back to the airport on Tuesday. Despite the scowl, I think he had a good time.

Sophie moves into Kai’s crate

I set up Kai’s crate in the living room while the puppy was around, thinking we might have to crate her. Kai was happy to have the crate again and went right in to lie down. When he came out, the next one in was Sophie. Since then, she’s decided it’s an excellent spot for napping. And Kai is too polite to shoo her out.

Sophie packs

Sophie apparently thought she was going to Benicia with us.

Benicia camel barn

One of Benicia’s main sights is the camel barns (no, really). The US Army experimented with using camels in the western desert in the 1850s and 1860s. It didn’t work out, so they shipped the camels to Benicia and housed them in these converted warehouses.

Benicia getaway

We went away overnight to Benicia for Memorial Day weekend. Benicia is all of 20 miles away, but it was a chance to get out of the house and relax. Arlin got us a room in a dog-friendly motel, and we just walked around and ate a couple of excellent meals at outdoor tables. The water is the Carquinez Strait, where the Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers flow into the bay. The photo was taken looking west toward the Carquinez Bridge.

Five hours of puppy

Kai and I met a stray puppy this afternoon. We couldn’t let her wander alone, so we took her home. She was a sweet little thing (even though she peed all over the floor) and we were thinking we’d have to take her in at least overnight. But when we went out about 7:00 p.m. we met a boy from the neighborhood who said he knew where she lived. So he took us there (a couple of blocks away) and we were able to reunite her with her owners.
