Catching up on the backlog

I haven’t posted for so long that I have a huge backlog of photos. I’ll just post a sample from the summer. With luck I’ll have worked my way backwards to May pretty soon, so I can post more photos from our trip to Norway.

Coco and Bianca were here in August for a too-short visit.

This is at César Chávez Park in Berkeley. It’s a popular place for kite flying. Enlarge to see the kites better.

A visit from our godson Søren.

No explanation necessary.

“Angels”

“Angels” is the title of this spectacular painting by Mark Edwin Carlson that is now hanging in the stairwell between the second and third floors. Arlin’s niece Elise gave us the painting in May when we were in Minnesota. We met the artist when we picked it up at his studio in Minneapolis. Arlin had it framed here in California. It’s so big that the stairwell is the only place it fits, but luckily the stairwell is also a great place for showing it — well lit but without direct sun on the picture, and viewable from many angles.

We’re thrilled to have it. Thanks, Elise!

PS: Be sure to click on the photo to see the enlarged version. Also click here to see a professional photo on Mark Edwin Carlson’s Web site.

Chester and Sophie on lookout duty

Ever since Arlin built shelves under the living room windows, Chester and Sophie have taken up guard duty there. Chester more often just stands on the floor and puts his paws on the shelf, but sometimes he scrambles up and sits or lies down. He barely fits now that he’s full-grown.

Dog play

Here’s a fairly typical morning at the beach from a couple of weeks ago. Chester met a black lab puppy named Jetson, who played with him off and on for about half an hour. The yellow lab’s name is Buster.

Naca again

Naca came to stay overnight yesterday. It’s the first time we’ve dog-sat her since we got Chester. All three dogs together were something of a handful. It was fun while it lasted, though it’s probably a good thing that it only lasted 24 hours. The photo shows Naca refereeing one of Chester and Sophie’s wrestling matches.

Syttende Mai in Oslo

This was the coldest May 17th in Oslo in fifty years. It spit snow in the morning, but by the time of the parade there was just a cold drizzle.

This little girl was having a great time waving her flag, although she didn’t seem to be quite clear that she should wave it in the air, not in the mud.

The royal family

At last, a photo from Norway. This is the royal family at the Syttende Mai (May 17th) national day parade in Oslo. School children parade through Oslo and in front of the royal palace. It appears that the Queen and Crown Princess get their hats from the same milliner as Queen Elizabeth II.
