The new Richmond BART garage

As seen from the BART platform, looking over the Amtrak platform. Our house is the last in the yellow row to the right (north) of the garage.

Kai: Canine Good Citizen

Yesterday was a big (and long!) day.

First, we went to Davis for Kai’s third chemotherapy treatment. Kai, Chester, and I left at 10:00 a.m. after our visit to Point Isabel, and we got home at 4:30. Kai was a trooper, as always. Chester was amazingly good during the three and a half hours we had to wait. We walked a mile and a half to the other side of the Davis campus. I had lunch on the patio of a restaurant while Chester lay quietly at my side, then we walked back. He paid no attention to all the bicycles, but he couldn’t resist going after the squirrels.

That evening, tired as we were, Kai and I went to the Berkeley East Bay Humane Society so he could take his Canine Good Citizen test. Of course, he passed with flying colors. We don’t call him the Stepford dog for nothing. (Though I had taken him to three training sessions to get ready.)

Not sure what to say about this picture.

My friend Cindy took this picture of Ari, Kai, and Chester at Pt. Isabel. If it were not for “Lamb Cuts” treats, I could never demand this kind of attention from any one!

Feeling good

Kai was feeling well enough on Friday to participate in a three-way tug of war with Chester and our labradoodle friend Coby.

Thank heaven for tramadol.

Piano accessories

P1000302

We now have a duet bench (almost three feet wide, so two people can sit side by side) and a piano lamp (in black and bronze to match the piano).

Sophie, of course, thinks we bought all this for her.

Squirrel!

Img_0425

Kai has been a bit gimpy lately. He got some Tramadol for pain relief when we went for his second chemotherapy appointment on Tuesday, October 25, and he’s much spryer now.

Today at the park there was a squirrel in a tree, and (as usual) that was good for about half an hour of intense concentration. Kai tried to leap the ten feet straight up into the branch where the squirrel was sitting. He managed about twelve inches, which is good for his age and condition. We had occasional help from other dogs, including the poodle on the right side of the tree.

Another reason it’s hard to practice

P1000284

Chester apparently doesn’t think my practicing is nearly as important as playing with him.

You may notice that something is missing. It’s the old piano. It moved out on Wednesday.
