Callix, the healthy eater

Did I say we’re learning to secure the food supplies? Not well enough yet, I guess. Mmmm, fresh homemade whole-wheat bread!

Everybody’s happy

Except Fritz, maybe, who would rather not be wearing the cone.

Fritz in the recovery lap

P1010162

Fritz was neutered on Tuesday and came home that evening. He has to wear a cone to keep him from licking the incision. He was noticeably unhappy about the cone for about 24 hours and then got used to it. He looks like a little four-legged vacuum cleaner, and acts like one too. He’s gone from not eating anything to being on the hunt for food every waking minute (happily, he sleeps a lot). He tries to get up onto every surface that might contain food — cat shelf, dining table, TV tray, lap. Between Fritz and Callix we’re getting used to securing the food supplies much more carefully than we had to with just Kai and Chester.

Feeling better

Fritz has been feeling better, judging from his appetite, his poops, and his energy level.

Chester still isn’t quite sure what to do with him. If Fritz picks up a toy, Chester usually just takes it away with a growl, but occasionally he forgets himself and plays with Fritz.

Here they’re playing tug of war on Tuesday afternoon, with Momo doing his best to ignore them.

Betsy is here!

Betsy arrived on Wednesday at 1:00 pm, and everyone is fine so far. She’s checking her email, with help from Willy, Kai, Fritz, and Callix. Kai is wearing his microfiber drying wrap after swimming at Point Isabel.

Two point two dogs at Point Isabel

P1010150

Fritz has been under the weather for a few days. He wasn’t eating his kibble, so we tempted him with various special foods. It turned out that he would eat chicken breast and steak, so we’ve all been eating chicken and steak for the last couple of days. The vet, as usual, recommended chicken and rice. He ate the chicken but not the rice. Today he took meat and rice and kibble, so we’re a bit relieved about his appetite.

But once he started eating again, he got diarrhea (ugh). Hopefully this will only last a short while.

He has meds for all of this. I attribute most of his problems to stress. He’s had to adjust to a new home (with stairs, which he obviously wasn’t used to), with two other dogs and four cats.

The photo is from this morning. Notice how attentive all three dogs are when real meat is involved.

I tell people not that we have three dogs now, but that we have two point two dogs, since he only weighs about one fifth of what Kai and Chester each weigh. He actually weighs less than Willy.

Fritz settles in

We got Fritz his own collar on Tuesday. He and Chester are still working things out about toys and who gets to go first when we go out, but everyone is getting along quite well on the whole (including the cats). Four of us had a nap on the bed today: me, Fritz, Chester, and Momo.

Fritz wasn’t interested in food today. We think that’s a result of the worming pill he got yesterday. His appetite was good before that.

He’s a smart boy. He comes when called by name at the dog park, and he sits on command (we taught him in just two days).

Fritz recovers from a visit to the vet

This morning all three dogs went to Point Isabel for two hours. I was hoping to wear them out so they would sleep at home while I went to my piano lesson at 11:30 am, and it worked.

Then Arlin took Fritz to the vet this afternoon for a checkup and shots. He weighs 15 pounds and is about a year old, according to the vet.

Fritz was so groggy after this busy day that he practically fell asleep on his feet. (And so was Arlin.)
