Someone at Pt. Isabel called him Hannibal Lector!!

Mr Doofus has become quite the poop eater at the dog park. The mesh mask is designed to protect against foxtails (quite a problem for some pups here) but we are using it to make it more difficult for Callix to get at the wonderful variety of scat at the park. He hates it, but it’s working. It’s preferable to treating for giardia every couple of months.

A new friend

This is Kodiak (Kodi for short), a 4 1/2 month old malamute. Kodi weighed 27 lbs at 8 weeks — half again as much as Fritz’s adult weight — and weighs 72 lbs now. Fritz and Kodi had a great romp today.

Kai is eleven

20130813-170643.jpg

Kai turned eleven on August 3, and Chester turned six by our arbitrary reckoning. Most of the time Kai is too dignified/tired/creaky (take your pick) to join in any games now, but once in a while he can’t resist. We found a boomerang-shaped toy at the park the other day, which became the object of a three-way tug of war.

House sitting

Callix and I are having fun house sitting in Pinole. This is Naca’s imitation of Oliver Twist. Please, Betsy, I want some more.

California at last

Olof reads up on San Francisco as we take the BART into the city.

I couldn’t quite see the pin!

The requisite cable car ride.

And a visit to a Victory ship built in the Richmond shipyard during the war. It supplied munitions and other goods to the Pacific Fleet.

More on the Swede’s trip across the U.S.

Don’t know why Olof would be nervous with Janet driving those hairpin turns through the mountains.

If the job is still open, Olof says he’ll come out of retirement.

Visited the Smokejumper headquarters in Missoula and watched them suit up and board the plane for a practice jump.

And of course the Elk Foundation, where we were reminded that “hunting is conservation”.

But the highlight was the Missoula Marathon, run by two familiar faces (oh, and a few thousand other people).

Olof and Betsy’s Great Adventure Continues

Tweety and Sheepy keep Olof company on the ferry from Nantucket.

Janet met us in Denver. We spent the night in Estes Park, Colorado. Drove through the Rockie Mountains and made it to Casper.

Olof got his new jeans!!

Knit bombing in Casper, Wyoming.

And a visit to Cody, Wyoming.

Nantucket As Well

Olof and Betsy spent a couple of lovely days with Cousin Paula and Harold on Nantucket.

We were able to be outside all the time and enjoy their gracious hospitality.

Paula’s wonderful hidden garden.

And it was a real pleasure to meet their daughter Joely, her husband Matt, and their son Theo.
