Additions to the aquatic menagerie

We’ve seen toads in the pool all summer, but now that the rains have begun we’re starting to see frogs hanging out too. Now, the latest visitor is a California tiger salamander. The salamander showed up in the pool skimmer this morning. I moved him to the (non-working) spa so he wouldn’t be sucked into the skimmer again when the pump is running.

The salamander was a bit of a surprise, but not as surprising as the tarantula I found swimming in the pool a little while later.

It was paddling around and seemed quite happy, but I removed it and sent it on its way.

Mystery Quilt

Laying out the blocks from the SMQA mystery quilt on my roll down design shade. Since you get one clue a month you have no idea what you will end up with by the time you get to this point. I decided to go totally scrappy in order to use up fabric I already have. Somewhere in there is actually a pattern and a secondary pattern if you look hard enough. A day or two away and then I’ll look at it again and decide how I feel about the layout. Overall, I’m quite happy with it.

My in-laws stayed in Fergus Falls …

… and they got me this FABulous T-shirt.

Thanks, Caryn and Brendan, for the T-shirt! I hope you enjoyed Fergus Falls at least a little bit.

And thanks for lugging it all the way to Texas so Betsy could lug it all the way back to California!
